Unite to Make a Difference Together

Who
we are

The Helen Masuwa Foundation was established on 17th July 2023 and officially launched as an NGO on 20th July 2024 in North-Western Province, Zambia, in loving memory of Mrs. Helen Hindson Masuwa , who originally came from Northern Ireland. Helen was a devoted missionary at Kalene Mission Hospital, where she dedicated her life to serving the community with compassion and faith.

Beyond her calling, Helen had a deep concern for orphans and vulnerable children, always extending a helping hand to those in need. Inspired by her legacy of faith, love, and service, the Foundation continues her mission to support children and teens in Ikelenge District, an area that extends to the borders of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Helen was married to Mr. Paul Masuwa, who remains dedicated to carrying forward her vision.

Our Vision

To love, care for, and support orphans and vulnerable young people in Ikelenge District by providing them with essential educational resources and school uniforms, enabling them to access quality education.

As part of our long-term plan, we aim to empower teenagers by equipping them with practical life skills through vocational training in tailoring and carpentry, fostering self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. We endeavour to achieve this through:

Education – Providing tools and opportunities to help vulnerable children learn and grow.

Empowerment – Equipping young people with skills to build a better future.

Community – Strengthening the local community by uplifting its most vulnerable members.

Compassion – Making sure every child feels genuinely loved, valued, and consistently supported.

Educational Support

Projects

Healthcare

We are supporting the provision of healthcare at the Kalene Mission Hospital. The hospital has five wards with a total of 187 beds. In 2025 we commenced a refurbishment of the children’s ward.

Skills Training

2026 sees the launch of our skills training centre. This is an exciting venture for the foundation where school leavers will learn skills in sewing and construction

We are partnering with local schools to ensure that children have the tools necessary to learn. At the beginning of September 2025 members of the foundation visited 28 schools in the district and distributed 1750 educational packs to children both of primary and secondary age.
